California services

I am a licensed naturopathic doctor in California (and Washington), and I see California residents by telemedicine anywhere in the state.

My practice is built around one kind of problem: digestive illness that has not resolved through the usual route. Most people who find me have already had the endoscopy, already had the normal labs, and already been told that things look fine. They are still bloated. They are still planning their day around a bathroom. Their diet has quietly narrowed to a handful of foods that feel safe.

If that describes where you are, the rest of this page explains what working together actually looks like from California — including what I can and cannot do here, which is worth knowing before you book anything.

What I work with

Most of my California practice sits in four areas.

•   Functional gastrointestinal disorders — IBS, SIBO, functional dyspepsia, chronic constipation, and post-infectious or post-antibiotic dysbiosis.

•   Inflammatory bowel disease where inflammation is controlled but you are still symptomatic — the part of IBD care that often gets less attention than the inflammation itself.

•   Gut-brain disorders, where the nervous system is driving or amplifying the gut symptoms and treating the gut alone has not been enough.

•   The overlap picture — a gut complaint alongside dysautonomia, POTS, ME/CFS, or long COVID, where the autonomic and digestive problems are tangled together and usually managed by separate people who never speak to each other.

That last one is the reason a lot of people travel a long way, digitally, to work with me. It is hard to find one clinician who takes both halves seriously.

What Care Involves

We start with a long initial visit — long enough to take a real history rather than a symptom list.

From there, testing only where it changes what we do: breath testing for SIBO, comprehensive stool and microbiome analysis, organic acids, standard laboratory work, and nutrigenomic testing where your genetics are relevant to the plan. I order these directly for California patients.

Treatment is built from dietary change that someone actually implements alongside you week by week, botanical and nutritional therapy, hormone therapy where it is indicated, and — for the patients whose nervous system is clearly part of the picture — the Safe and Sound Protocol and gut-directed hypnotherapy. The Safe and Sound Protocol is a Polyvagal-informed listening intervention, delivered remotely, and it is one of the few tools that addresses the gut-brain axis from the nervous system side rather than the gut side.

What I can and cant do in California

California regulates naturopathic doctors more narrowly than Washington does, and I would rather you know that up front than discover it in month two.

In California I can order and interpret laboratory testing, and I can independently provide nutritional, botanical, and hormone therapies, along with dietary and mind-body treatment including the Safe and Sound Protocol. That covers the large majority of what my work actually consists of.

I do not perform endoscopy, colonoscopy, or imaging — when those are indicated I will tell you, and refer you to someone who does. I am not taking over your primary care. And certain prescription medications fall outside what a naturopathic doctor may prescribe independently in California; where one of those is the right answer, I will say so plainly and coordinate with the physician who can prescribe it, rather than work around the question.

How Telemedicine Looks Like From California

Visits happen over secure video. Under California law, care is delivered where you are, so you need to be physically in California at the time of each visit. I will ask you to confirm your location each time, and you will be asked to give consent for telehealth before the first visit.

Laboratory work is drawn near you. Blood draws go through a patient service centre local to you; breath and stool testing are collected at home and mailed directly to the laboratory. Results come back to me and we review them together.

Supplements ship to your California address. You are never required to buy them from me.

What the first 90 days look like

•   Discovery call — a free video meet-and-greet, so you can decide whether this is the right fit before committing to anything.

•   Initial visit — a full history, a working explanation of what is likely driving your symptoms, and a testing plan.

•   Testing — two to four weeks, depending on which panels we run and how quickly the laboratory returns them.

•   Results visit — we go through what came back, and build the actual treatment plan.

•   Follow-up — regular visits while the plan is active, adjusting as your symptoms change.

Most people are in active treatment for several months. Digestive illness that took years to develop does not usually resolve in two visits, and I would rather tell you that now than imply otherwise.

Fees

In California, my practice is cash-based. I do not bill California insurance plans, and I am not contracted with Medicare. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds, and I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurer, though coverage for naturopathic care in California varies considerably by plan.

Initial visit: $380.   Follow-up visits: $190.   Laboratory testing is billed separately by the laboratory, and I will tell you what a panel costs before ordering it.

The discovery call is free.

Start with a Discovery Call

Every new California patient starts the same way — a free video call, no obligation, so we can both find out whether this is a good fit. If it isn't, I will tell you, and where I can I will point you toward something that is.
